Chore #2 - Chopping Wood

We took down an old oak. It broke my heart but it was rotting out at the base and if it toppled over in a big storm it would have destroyed the cabin. We were in desperate need of firewood anyways, so it was good timing and put to good use (keeping us warm and helping us cook our food). This little pile was just the start. We brought the tree down with chain saws but then I chopped it all by hand with my trusty axe. When it was all finished we had about a good 1.5-2 cords of wood.

Chore #1 - Milking

Out on the farm, it's early to rise and early in the sack. It would take alot of work to get a good bucket full of milk out of this cow. These were tight quarters too. Afterwords we would strain the milk - save some and with the cheese cloth make some tasty cheese. This cow's calf was one cute bugger. Always running around and playing. We used to have lots of fun chasing each other.

Mountains

I used to live here for awhile. It was heaven. Wood burning stove inside for cooking. A small loft for sleeping upstairs. Pipe from the stove came through and kept me warm. I would boil peanuts outside in the caldron. Water, salt, peanuts, a good fire and 4 or 5 hours of soaking. Tasty little treats, once you get use to them. I lived off the land. I recorded music here, made some albums, sold them for money to help with the little things which required such currency.

I wish I could go back. I have to go back. Perhaps somewhere new but obviously somewhere old. It will soon be time to move somewhere where we can feel the air, away from this dismal smell of our current location. Our days now just seem to pass away, filled with many pointless repetative movements. Soon I will pack up the wagon, and with my wife and dogs, go somewhere worth our full breaths.
